Hi ! I wonder if you might be able to help me !
My nickname is Fireskyit and I am a programmer and working for me.
Now I am studying sysbian. I know you are senior programmer.
I would be extremely please if you could give me some information about progamming in sysbian with C++ using carbide 1.2. and give me a your project caro game on sysbian.
Thank you very much.
Actually I’m still a student and still have a lot to learn, it’s true that I’m a senior student though :P
Unfortunately, projects I did for the past 4 years went to dust with my HDD; and my courses management website doesn’t allow me to view my submissions from the last semester, so I can’t send you my code. Instead you can download my TA’s solution (which I kept on a separate computer) here, credit goes to Mr. Bui Tan Loc :)
I can’t say I mastered Symbian, but my tips would be
- Master C++ first
- Read my post on Symbian to overcome common starting obstacles
- Read about data types and constructors over and over (believe me, they are pretty hard to grasp and can lead to inexplicable errors if understood poorly)
- After that, you are free to explore, it’s pretty the same paradigm from the original (objective) C++.
About resources, here are the books and papers I referenced:
- Using Symbian OS String Descriptors
- Developing Series 60 Applications: A Guide for Symbian OS C ++ Developers by Leigh Edwards, Richard Barker
- Carbide.c++ UI Designer White Paper (Forum Nokia)
- Symbian OS explained by Jo Stichbury
Nokia forums seems to be the most active Symbian developer’s hangout on the Internet. Good place to post your questions :)
About Carbide, I don’t think 1.2 is a good idea since it’s
1. Not free
2. Old
By the time I get acquainted with Symbian, I was using Carbide 1.3. I heard now they have Carbide 2.0 and it’s free too! I think it may be more comfortable to work with new SDKs like this sleeky touch-sensitive cutie’s
What I dont understand is how youre not even more popular than you are now. Youre just so intelligent. You know so much about this subject, made me think about it from so many different angles. Its like people arent interested unless it has something to do with Lady Gaga! Your stuffs great. Keep it up!
I’m really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice blog like this one today..
